Blepharoplasty ("eyelid surgery")
It may come as a surprise to learn that eyelid surgery is one of the more popular forms of plastic surgery. The reason is that you can make a dramatic improvement in the look of your face with a simple surgery. There is so much attention focused on your eyes that this is an area that you really do need to pay attention to. Most people have the surgery to make them look younger but there are other reasons that you may want to do it.
Blepharoplasty is used to improve the appearance of the eyelids. There are a number of different things that can be done the most common on the upper eye lids is to remove fatty deposits so that you can get rid of the puffiness. It can also be used to remove and loose skin that is hanging around your eyes. Surgery on the bottom eyelids is normally done to get rid of wrinkles or to remove bags from under the eyes. Regardless of the reason for doing it the procedure can have a dramatic effect on your appearance and make you look a lot younger than you really are.
Obviously eyelid surgery is not for everybody there are some things that you are going to have to think about before you commit yourself to surgery. The big thing is your health, the procedure is not for people who have serious problems with their eyes. Nor is it for people who suffer from a life threatening illness. In addition you need to make sure that you have realistic goals about the surgery. It will make you look younger but it won't completely change the way you look and it certainly won't change your life.
If you are considering the procedure you are going to need to consult with a plastic surgeon in order to determine if you are a good candidate. There are certain conditions that you will need to tell your doctor about since they could be a problem during the surgery. The big ones are eye conditions like glaucoma or a detached retina. You will also need to let him know if you have a thyroid disorder or a cardiovascular disease. In all likelihood these will prevent you from getting the surgery but you need to be honest about these conditions since there is a reason that the doctor will ask.
The surgery itself is fairly simple and is normally done on an out patient basis. There is a recovery time involved but this can be done at home. There will be some discomfort and swelling for the first couple of weeks after the procedure and this will likely need to be managed by medication. Because of the swelling it will take a couple of weeks before you are able to see the final results of the surgery. However once you do you will surely be impressed.
